What Is CBD?

CBD (or cannabidiol) is a type of cannabinoid that is naturally found in cannabis plants. While marijuana and hemp plants both contain CBD, the latter has a much lower concentration of THC (or tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the mind-altering compound known for getting users “high” (more on that later).

The concentrations of CBD vary significantly from one plant to another, but some high quality plants can contain as much as 18% CBD! Because of the low THC and high potency of CBD in hemp, this makes it the ideal plant from which to extract the compound.

Can CBD Get You High? Is It Legal?

The short answer: No, CBD cannot get you high like THC does.

It’s important to note that the cannabis plant from which the CBD oil is extracted has a significant role in its legal status. According to the 2018 Farm Bill, CBD products are legal in all 50 states as long as their THC content is below 0.3% and derived from hemp. At Made By Hemp, all of our products including our edibles meet this standard, or else they are not carried on our site.

CBD derived from marijuana plants, on the other hand, run into trickier territory. Because marijuana is still considered an illicit substance by the federal government, online manufacturers cannot ship their CBD products.

What Are The Differences Between THC And CBD?

As mentioned before, THC tends to have strong mind-altering effects that are associated with the marijuana plant. Both compounds act on the body’s internal policing system, known as the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), but in very different ways.

The ECS contains cannabinoid receptors that interact with THC and CBD in unique ways. CB1 is favored by THC, and their bond is what creates the recognizable psychoactive effects of consuming marijuana.

On the other hand, CBD binds with the CB2 receptor, but the interaction doesn’t end there. It also stimulates the neural tissues in such a way that it affects the anxious signals in the ECS. Interestingly, CBD can also counteract any effects caused by THC and promote balance in the body.

WHAT ARE CBD EDIBLES? WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE THEM?

CBD edibles contain an exact measured dose of CBD, with a wide range of products available. At Made By Hemp, we offer CBD gummy bears, chocolate bars, meal replacements, minty gums, fruity beverages, and more products that are infused with the compound. Not only are these goodies a convenient way to get your daily dose of CBD, they often taste great too!

While it is possible to vape CBD, edibles tend to be more effective for many people due to their longer duration of action. While the effects of vaporized CBD typically only last for a couple of hours, edibles tend to produce effects that last for 4-6 hours or more.

Although it can take up to 2 hours for edibles to absorb in your digestive system, metabolize, release into the bloodstream, and reach your brain, this slow release is the reason it lasts so much longer than inhaled methods.
