Using CBD Oil to Manage Negative Emotions

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound derived from cannabis plants, including marijuana and hemp. It does not cause any feelings of intoxication and affects the mood by interacting with the endocannabinoid system. It comprises a network of receptors found throughout the body and contributes to mood disorders when it is not functioning properly.

CBD is believed to interact with CB1 and CB2 receptors in the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. It is still unclear exactly how CBD affects CB1 receptors in the brain, although it may alter serotonin signals. Low levels of serotonin are usually associated with people who have depression and anxiety.

CBD relaxes the mind and body and improves your mood. It results in the absence of negative emotions rather than causing euphoria.

CBD for Depression

Major depressive disorder or depression is associated with intense feelings of sadness or lack of interest in previously pleasurable activities. CBD can help people dealing with depression. It impacts endocannabinoid activity and interacts with serotonin receptors that affect the body’s response to stress. The full reaction between CBD and depression is still unclear, and scientists have called on more research to determine CBD’s benefits for treating depression.

CBD for Anxiety

According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA), about one-third of people will face anxiety disorders at some point in their lives. Everyday circumstances like crowded places can trigger flight or fight responses for people who suffer from anxiety.
Research has shown that CBD may offer effective relief for anxiety. People with anxiety have shown a greater sense of alertness and control when using CBD. Other evidence shows that CBD can be used effectively in monotherapy and complementary therapy for treating anxiety. It also improves the ability to perform daily functions and reduce pain.

Posttraumatic disorder or PTSD can affect people who have experienced a traumatic event like assault, combat, or natural disasters. Symptoms of PTSD include flashbacks, nightmares, sadness or anger, and strong negative reactions to cues like loud noises.

CBD can affect fear learning and memory, which is a promising new approach for PTSD. It helps prevent the brain from associating a fear response with visual cues or sounds. It also helps in fear extinction, where the brain does not respond with fear to a learned cue. CBD is known to decrease insomnia and aggression associated with PTSD.

Other Negative Emotions

CBD can also be used on other neurological disorders such a social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and anxiety-induced insomnia. It helps to improve symptoms of anxiety, such as increased heart rate.

While there are many cases where CBD has helped to deal with negative emotions, more human research is needed to explore its full potential. CBD can be administered through oils, sublingual spray, capsules, edibles, and vaporized oil or cannabis flowers. It is important to consult with your doctor to determine the appropriate dosage of CBD to intake and prevent adverse side effects.
